Well race one of the season is under the belt. I have a lot of work to do, but thankfully its a long season. First lap was tough as I was trying to keep from getting dropped, but after I realized it was only a matter of time, I decided to slow up a bit and try to enjoy the race. Laps 3,4,and 5 were much better and fairly smooth. I could occasionally see team-mate Jesse Shoemaker slowly catching up to me, so I made it a goal to hold him off. Nothin' like a little friendly team competition.
The new Kits look awesome, thanks to all the sponsors. Congrats to the rest of the guys on the team, everyone had an awesome race. I'll have some pics to post from the cheering squad(Brooke and Fam) hopefully get to that tomorrow.

Got a cool new app for my phone, imapmyfitness, so I tried it out for the last couple ski's out at nine mile. Its now down to less than two weeks till the birkie, so I'm focusing on that pretty heavily right now. I got to do some high altitude skiing this past week out in colorado, it is really tough to ski hard at 10000 feet. Definitely more difficult than biking, I think mainly because you dont have a seat to sit down on and coast for a while. I may be doing the stump far ski race this coming weekend if the snow conditions don't get wrecked by the warm weather this week.

Well we all survived the backpacking trip. It got down to 1F the first night we were out there, plus my sleeping pad went flat so I was basically sleeping on the snow. Did things different the second and third night and stayed a lot warmer. The whole trip was a blast, but winter camping is a lot of work! We spent a good part of each morning and evening melting snow or boiling stream water for drinking and cooking. Two of the five of us mad it too the top of Government peak. The second night we camped about 3 miles from the peak. Myself and Phil got up early and made trip to the top and back before noon, we were able to make good time in the snowshoes without 50lb packs. It was beautiful at the top, but the snow didn't allow us to see very far. Here are some pictures!

Winter Backpacking trip
Got the gear all loaded up heading out a 4 day winter snowshoe backpacking trip. The pack is at 45lbs right now, but will go up as I put in the last bit of food I can squeeze in. Plan is to make it to the top of Government peak(1850ft) in the Porcupine Mountains. Should be interesting as 3 of the 5 people going have not done much for backpacking. I'm sure we will make some good memories on this trip.
Once I get back, it is time to get some serious K's in on those ski's in preparation for the quickly approaching ski races(Noque, Badger state, Birkie, and maybe Bear Chase). All of this is of course in preparation for the Wausau 24hr Duo race that I entered with my team-mate Jesse Shoemaker...

Snow has finally arrived in Wausau!!! This means I can finally stop ice skating on the lakes with poles, and cross training has officially begun. I found that this was a pretty good way to replicate skiing for a person who hates to rollerski. Nine Mile has great snow coverage, but there are still a lot of soft spots on the edges that really like to catch the tips of the skis. The new salomon skis and boots have arrived, and now I'm just waiting for the bindings.
